The Swedish Women’s National Bandy Team has qualified for yet another World Championship final after convincingly defeating Finland. The match ended with a decisive score of 13-1 (2-1). This victory extends Sweden’s impressive winning streak, having remained undefeated throughout the entire group stage in the Women’s A Group.
Sweden is now aiming to defend the World Championship title they secured on home ice in Växjö/Åby in 2023.
For head coach Olle Wiberg, this marks the third World Championship final he has guided the Swedish squad into. Wiberg expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance thus far and looks forward to the final with great optimism.
“I’m very pleased. Especially with our second half. I’m not satisfied with the entire match. Our first half wasn’t quite how we wanted to perform, but our second half was fantastic, and that’s what we’ll bring with us into Sunday’s final,” said Olle Wiberg.
USA or Norway in the Final On Sunday, Sweden will face either Norway or the USA. The USA, which has never previously reached a World Championship final, now has the opportunity to make history.
“In terms of gameplay, Norway is a strong opponent. They play a more traditional style of bandy, which we enjoy playing against. However, the USA is intriguing. It could potentially be their first World Championship final, which would be incredibly exciting for international bandy. They play a mixture of hockey and bandy, which isn’t easy to defend against. But purely based on gameplay, Norway would be preferable,” concluded Olle Wiberg.
The final will be held on Sunday, with Sweden set to face the winner of the semifinal between Norway and the USA.
